DAY - 1 : DELHI - AMRITSAR
Arrive into
Amritsar airport or the railway station on your own. You will be
met and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay. Your
afternoon tour will consist of a visit to the Durgiana Temple,
which is dedicated to the goddess Durga and dates back to the 16th
century. The temple is built after the design of the Golden Temple
and attracts sages and scholars in Hindu scriptures from all over
India. A large temple is dedicated to Hindu deities Laxmi (The
Goddess of wealth) and Narayan (The Preserver of Universe). All
dignitaries visiting Golden Temple make it a point to also visit
the Durgiana Temple.
Later visit the landmark of Amritsar – The Golden Temple. During
Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s reign, the lower half of the temple was
decorated with marble while the entire upper half was inlaid with
copper and gold plated- hence its new name, the Golden Temple. Its
four gates invite everyone from all directions. The Golden Temple
is a living symbol of the spiritual and historical traditions of
the Sikhs and is their chief place of pilgrimage. The temple with
it’s glistening gold covered exterior stands in the middle of a
square tank with each side about 150m and with an 18m path on all
four sides. The construction of the Golden Temple as it appears
today was begun in 1764. Many of the doors and domes were covered
with copper sheets overlaid with gold during the reign of Maharaja
Ranjit Singh.
