Day 1 –
Zurich at Leisure
Upon
arrival at Zurich Airport you may take the complimentary
shuttle service to the Movenpick Regensdorf hotel. After
checking in, the rest of the day is at leisure to explore
Switzerland's largest city. Perhaps visit the Frauenmunster,
famous for its stained glass windows by Marc Chagall or
perhaps the elegant Bahnhofstrasse?
Day 2 –
Zurich – Innsbruck
In the
small Principality of Liechtenstein we visit the capital of
Vaduz, overlooked by the 700 year old castle. After some free
time to explore we continue through spectacular scenery to
Innsbruck. Our orientation tour with our Tour Director shows
us the baroque Wilten Basilica, before we continue into the
Old Town to see the Golden Roof and the Imperial Palace. The
rest of the day is at leisure. This evening, perhaps enjoy a
lively Tyrolean folklore show? (B,D)
Day 3 –
Innsbruck at Leisure
Today is
a full day at leisure to relax in this mountain ringed town,
or perhaps do a little bit of shopping? Don't miss the
opportunity to join an exciting optional excursion to see
'Mad' King Ludwig's fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle. This
excursion also visits Oberammergau, setting of the Passion
Play, last performed in 2000, in thanksgiving for being spared
from the Black Death in 1633. (B)
Day 4 –
Innsbruck – Veneto
We cross
the Europa Bridge en route to the Brenner Pass on the Italian
border. We descend from the Alps to the fertile Adriatic Plain
and continue to the beautiful, water bound city of Venice. We
cruise by private launch to St. Mark's Square. The palatial
residences seem to float on the water – the city itself is
a poem. We alight to see the Bridge of Sighs, which connects
the Doges' Palace to the prisons. It was from here that
Casanova made his daring escape! We also see St Mark's
Basilica, glistening with mosaics, then watch one of the
master craftsman create a work of art in glass. Later, maybe
take a gondola ride along the canals before we return to the
mainland and our Veneto hotel. (B)
Day 5 –
Veneto – Italian Lakes
It's
only a short drive to the elegant city of Verona, home to
Shakespeare's star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. We walk
along the narrow streets to visit the courtyard of the Capulet
home to see Juliet's balcony - can you recite Shakespeare's
immortal words? Then we see the ancient Roman arena, still in
use after all these years! Now we continue to the Italian
fashion capital, Milan, where we see the Gothic cathedral, as
well as the elegant Galleria which leads to the famous 'La
Scala' Opera House. Our hotel tonight is in the lovely Italian
Lake District - where Alpine scenery combines with luxuriant
subtropical vegetation. (B,D)
Day 6 –
Italian Lakes at Leisure
Today
you have time to relax and enjoy the magnificent vistas of
this beautiful region. Why not take an optional cruise from
Stresa across Lake Maggiore to the enchanting palace on the
Borromean island, Isola Bella? (B)
Day 7 –
Italian Lakes – Lake Lucerne
We stop
in the fashionable Swiss resort of Lugano this morning,
beautifully located on the shores of its lake, amid
spectacular mountains. Time here to stroll in the gardens and
browse in the exclusive shops. Now we travel through the
magnificent St Gotthard tunnel, into central Switzerland. Then
past cascading waterfalls and soaring mountains, on our way to
the City Hotel in the small town of Brunnen, situated on
picturesque Lake Lucerne. (B)
Day 8 –
Lucerne at Leisure
This
morning, our Tour Director takes us to see the emotive Lion
Monument, where we hear the story of the Swiss Guards who lost
their lives at the battle of the Tuileries in Paris. Then
maybe stroll across the covered Chapel Bridge or shop for that
special Swiss timepiece, or delicious local chocolate! Perhaps
join an exciting optional excursion by cable car up a nearby
mountain, for fine panoramas over glaciers and snowfields?
(B,D)
Day 9 –
Zurich Airport
Sadly,
we bid farewell to our scenic wonderland today. There will be
two complimentary transfers to Zurich Airport, leaving from
the hotel at 0700 and 1100 hours. (B)
