Day 1 – London – Brussels

We meet our Tour Director this morning at the Hilton Olympia, then we leave London for Dover and our ferry to Calais, France. Travelling north through Flanders, we stop in Bruges, its old buildings a perfect introduction to historic Europe. Then to the Belgium capital Brussels to visit the memorable Grand Place and see the cheeky Mannekin Pis.

Day 2 – Brussels – Rhineland

Into Germany today to marvel at the soaring spires of Cologne's cathedral. Then we continue along the Rhine, via Bonn, to board our highlight cruise at the charming town of Boppard. We glide past medieval castles and steep vineyards to St Goar, where we hear tales of the legendary Loreley Rock before continuing to our hotel in the Rhineland. (B,D)

Day 3 – Rhineland – Prague

This morning the smooth 'Autobahn' takes us behind the former 'iron curtain'. We soon pass Nuremberg, the notorious site of the Nazi war trials. We continue east to the Czech border, and travel via Pilsen, known for its beer, to the 'golden' city of Prague. (B,D)

Day 4 – Prague Sightseeing

This morning our local guide shows us Hradcany Castle, majestic St. Vitus' Cathedral, Golden Lane and the Old Town, where we conclude our tour at the Astronomical Clock. Later, there is time to shop for local specialities. Tonight, why not try the Czech cuisine in an old town restaurant? (B)

Day 5 – Prague – Budapest

This morning we drive through the province of Moravia into Slovakia, where we stop to visit its capital city, Bratislava. Later, we cross the Hungarian border and follow the Danube en route to Budapest. (B,D)

Day 6 – Budapest Sightseeing

Set on the banks of the blue Danube, Budapest is an historic city where east meets west. First we ascend to hilltop Buda to explore the cobbled streets of the old town and visit the splendid Matthias Church, from where we can also admire the view of the city. Now it's on into the commercial district of Pest to see the Parliament Building and Heroes' Square. Now we are free to explore on our own, or shop for bargains in embroidery and porcelain. Tonight, perhaps enjoy dinner with traditional gypsy entertainment? (B)

Day 7 – Budapest – Vienna

Heading out of Budapest we travel through farmland, passing the Roman city of Gyor. Crossing into Austria, we soon reach elegant Vienna, where our guided tour shows us the Imperial Winter Palace, the Parliament and the beautiful Opera House. Tonight, perhaps enjoy a wonderful concert of Viennese Classical music? (B)

Day 8 – Vienna at Leisure

Today we are at leisure in this romantic city. Perhaps waltz to Strauss or visit the state apartments of fabulous Schonbrunn Palace? Why not take a ride on the giant Ferris Wheel at Prater Park, made famous in the film "The Third Man"? (B)

Day 9 – Vienna – Veneto

We traverse the peaceful forests of little-known Styria to follow the shores of Lake Worth in the picturesque Carinthian Lake District. We cross the border into Italy and enter a new culture – opera, pastas, fine wine and romance! Where better to start than the unique city of Venice? (B,D)

Day 10 – Venice Sightseeing

This morning we drive to the Venetian Lagoon where our private launch takes us to St. Mark's Square. We disembark to see the Bridge of Sighs connecting the Doges' Palace with the prisons. We then stroll across the square to St. Mark's Basilica, before watching a demonstration of Venetian glass-blowing. Then the rest of the day is at leisure. Maybe take a romantic gondola ride or perhaps take a trip to one of the many islands of the lagoon for a delicious seafood lunch? (B)

Day 11 – Veneto – Rome

Farewell to Venice as we pass Bologna and climb the Apennine Mountains to join the 'Highway of the Sun'. After the vineyards of Chianti, we pass the Etruscan hill towns of Orte and Orvieto where time stands still. Finally, we reach Rome and check into our hotel. (B)

Day 12 – Rome Sightseeing

Our guided tour of the 'Eternal City' begins with a visit to St. Peter's Basilica with it's moving sculpture of the 'Pieta' by Michelangelo. Don't miss the chance of visiting the Vatican Museums and incredible Sistine Chapel! Then it's across the River Tiber to see the Forum and the mighty Colosseum, where Nero was entertained by gladiatorial combat. This evening, perhaps try one of the city's lively restaurants? (B)

Day 13 – Rome – Florence

Arrivederci Roma as we head north to Tuscany and Renaissance Florence – city of art and culture. First we pause for views over the city from the Piazzale Michelangelo before walking with our Tour Director to enjoy a demonstration of Florentine leatherwork. Then we enjoy free time to explore the magnificent cathedral dedicated to St. Mary of the Flowers, see Ghiberti's 'Gates of Paradise', or gaze at the many statues that line Signoria Square. (B,D)

Day 14 – Florence – Lucerne

We head north today across the fertile Po Valley and continue through the Italian Lake District. Here, on the St Gotthard route, we enjoy an Alpine drive to Lucerne. (B)

Day 15 – Lucerne Sightseeing

Our Tour Director takes us to see the emotive Lion Monument, where we hear the story of the Swiss Guards who lost their lives at the Battle of the Tuileries in Paris. Then we see the Chapel Bridge and the Jesuit church, before time at leisure to shop for Swiss chocolates or perhaps to take a trip to the top of a nearby peak for views of the Alps? (B,D)

Day 16 – Lucerne – Paris

We leave snow capped mountains and tranquil lakes behind us this morning as we cross the Rhine at Basel and enter France. We skirt the Jura Mountains and drive past the vineyards of Burgundy en route to Paris, the 'City of Light'. Tonight, perhaps join a tour of the illuminations? (B)

Day 17 – Paris Sightseeing

Today's sightseeing with our local guide shows us the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees and the Place de la Concorde. Also included is a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral. Later, time at leisure to perhaps visit the Mona Lisa in the Louvre? Tonight, maybe join your new found friends at a farewell dinner in a typical Parisian bistro? (B)

Day 18 – Paris – London

We travel across the First World War battlefields of the Somme to Calais, for our return voyage to England. A short drive from Dover and we're back in London, where we bid farewell to our Tour Director. (B)
