to Chhatru (3,740 meters) 16 km As one approaches the Hamta Pass,
rocks and boulders slope done from the flanks in magnificent
sweeps. Over the pass, the route descends rapidly down to Chhatru
where a grassy meadow above the Chandra River offers a good
camping place. The Rest House is located here. |

Dara to Batal (3,960 meters) 16 km Batal is situated at the foot
of Kunzum pass which provides the main approach to Spiti from
Lahaul. On the way is Bara Shigri glacier. The view of the Shigri
is an unforgettable sight. A hut is located here. |

Batal
to Chandratal (4,270 meters) 18 km Chandratal (The Moon Lake) is
of exquisite beauty between a lower ridge and the main Kunzum
range, the outlet being into the Chandra River. |

in Tibetan, Yongma means lower and Gongma means upper. |
