the headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti District. Sha Shur monastery

Rohtang Pass 3,978 meters affords a wide spread panorama of
mountain scenery. Looking into Lahaul, the eye meets a range of
snow-clad peaks, pinnacles ridges and precipitous cliffs of stark
rocks huge glaciers piled moraines and deep ravines the slopes of,
which are bare and tree-less. Almost directly opposite, is the
well-defined Sonepani glacier; slightly left are the twin peak of

Marrhi
to Manali (motorable) 36 km The return journey passes through
Rahalla, where the River Beas after hurtling over a sheer drop of
more than 30 meters, assumes a respectable size and gets a
powerful start on its long journey of about 560km. Kothi is a
quiet but picturesque spot, the Beas flows through a deep gorge
below Kothi for more than one kilometer, almost a subterranean
passage a 30 meters or more in depth. |

You
often listen to the soft muttering of the pious invocation "OM
MAIN PADME HUM" by the Lamas and religious minded Buddhists while
trekking in Lahaul.
This
trek is operational during July and August.
