It is
a very interesting route to explore the oldest monasteries dating
back to the 11th Century. Like the Wangla and Mang Gyu and Alchi
monasteries...You may find it difficult but rewarding to cross
Tara - La. |
|
|

Lamayuru to Urshi is 6 to 7 hours from Lamayuru monastery. Descent
towards the village, cross the stream, ascent (gradual) across
mountainside a small valley, go on and on in the valley till
Prinkiti - la (3720 M). Descent into a gorge, arrive at Shilla,
cross a bridge, continue to the right bank upto Wanla (21/2
hours). Now follow Yapola River on the left for 2 hours upto Penji-la
after crossing the bridge. Go up, the valley, one hour after leave
this valley and go straight north along a stream, which leads to
Urshi. Camp near the pass after passing off the village. |

Urshi
to Tar-la (5250 M) 8 hours The trail is very well marked but
difficult for 5 hours until Tar-la (5250 M). There are masses of
fallen rocks on the slope while descending the pass for 3 hours to
reach Tar Village. Descending may be a problem for horses. |

Tar
village to Mang Gyu 4 to 5 hours Now the path goes up along the
mountainside to a new pass, then descends towards Mang Gyu. It is
a beautiful village with a monastery. Below the village is a
stream, camp near the stream. |

Mang
Gyu to Gera to Alchi 4 to 5 hours A very good path leads into a
beautiful narrow valley and after 2 hours you reach the Indus
valley at Gera Village (from here a bridge across the Indus leads
