It is
the most easily accessible and beautiful trekking route, popular
and frequented by all trekkers to this region. All paths are well
defined and newly built bridges are available to cross-rivers. |

Stok-Foot
of Stock-la (4900 M) ... 3 hours. After passing off Stok village
and following left bank of the river for two hours, climb gently
leaving a small pass on the left, continue onto a small valley and
camp overnight. It is the foot of Stock-la. |

of Stok-la - Stock-la (4900 M) - Yurutse ... 6 to 7 hours. |

Yurutse - Ganda-la - Sklu ... 6 to 7 hours. Sklu is a few hundred
metres away to the east of Shingo. |

Sklu -
Markha ... 7 hours A good path continues on the right bank from
Skiu to Markha. It is all round green. After crossing left bank by
a bridge, mountainscape changes to barren and by passing barren
plain, again cross a bridge to the right bank, you arrive at
Chaluk Village with few houses. Cross the river, walk along the
left bank, cross again and after a short climb is a beautiful
Markha Village with very good camping sites beyond houses near the
river. |

Markha
- Tchatchutse ... 6 to 7 hours Ascent to the main valley on right
bank of the river. By passing off Humlung monastery, follow right
bank upto Hankar Village with few houses. Now path is good. A
little ahead of Hankar, leaving broad valley on the right side,
cross bridge, which joins the trail from Hemis - Padam via Jumlam
and Hemis - Darcha via Rupshu. Now valley narrows and goes higher.
Cross onto the left bank by a bridge and arrive at Tchatchutse
camp. |

Tchatchutse - Nimaling (4700 M) ... 3 hours Now path is well
marked, river is quite far to the left, walk near a small lake,
cross pastures to reach Nimaling (4700 M). It is a most beautiful
valley in Ladakh and Kang Yaze (6400 M) peak dominates the valley.
From Nimaling, there are so many routes leading to the summit. |

Nimaling - Kongmaru-la (5150 M) - Shang ... 8 hours After a long
zig - zag climb along the mountainside takes you to Kongmaru - La
(5150 M) in about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Markha. Steep descent upto
4700 M - a beautiful campsite - then to a stream, now descent into
gorges with two stretches (very difficult for horses) after
leaving the gorges, and walking on the left bank, Chukirmo is
reached. After Chukirmo walking in the riverbed is difficult,
sometimes on left, sometimes on right arrive at Shang. A small
gompa is 1 hour away from Shang. |

Shang
- Hemis ... 3 to 4 hours Walking in river-bed again, then
following a good path and going to the left bank arrive at a dusty
trail and by passing a small house and series of chortens arrive
at Martselang. Now leaving Martselang on right side and following
a gentle upward trail arrive at Hemis. Drive to leh. |
